Bispegården - Tromsø, Norway

The beautiful residence built in 1832
One of the most beautiful houses in Tromsø city centre is the residence of the bishop of the northern most Roman Catholic diocese in the world. 

Memorial plaque
A memorial plaque outside the house states its history. It says:

THE CATHOLIC BISHOPS'S RESIDENCE
ERECTED AROUND 1832 IN EMPIRE STYLE
FOR MERCHANT TH. B. HOLST
RESIDENCE FOR THE CATHOLIC PRIESTS FROM 1860
POPE JOHN PAUL II
STAYED THE NIGHT HERE JUNE 3RD 1989
LISTED 1942

The residence is now the home of the bishop of the northern most Roman Catholic diocese in the world. The Roman Catholic community was established in the middle of the 19th century around Vor Frues kirke (Church of Our Lady), and the residence and the church survived World War II.

The Catholic community consists of around 400 members.
