Place de Vosges - a jewel of the Marais district

The Marais district of Paris is one of the areas of the French capital that escaped the urban planners of the 19th century. This area was developed by the Knights Templars in the Middle Ages and holds many historic buildings, including the oldest residential building in Paris. The jewel of the Marais is however the Place de Vosges.
The Place de Vosges is one of my favourite places in Paris. Built early in the 17th century during the reign of king Henri IV. This rectangular open space with its colonnades and park area is a place to rest in the busy metropolis.
In this clip from YouTube presenter and art historian Sandrine Voillet present the magnificent Place des Vosges. Clip taken from the BBC arts series 'Paris'. Watch more high quality videos on the new BBC Worldwide YouTube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/bbcworldwide
