Rating Comfort Hotel Trondheim, Norway

Comfort Hotel Trondheim is a brand new hotel in the middle of the city. High tech, modern interior, relatively small rooms at a decent price. The hotel has few facilities and the breakfast could have been better.

Good location - nice staff

Comfort Hotel Trondheim is located in Krambugata in downtown Trondheim. Leave by the stop by Radisson Blu Hotel, and the hotel is found just a few minutes walk away. Krambugata is a rather plain street but you'll find some of the beautiful building of the city just minute's walk away, including the magnificent Nidaros cathedral.

The staff at the reception desk offered great service, extending right to stay in my room to a generous time of 6 PM. The staff in the breakfast room struggled to maintain order in the breakfast room during the morning.

Contemporary Scandinavian interior design

My single room was on the smaller side, facing an inner courtyard securing peace and quiet during the night. The interior of the entire hotel reflects contemporary Scandinavian interior design. A 4 ft wide bed, a small, narrow and rather impractical desk and a smart flat screen TV placed over it. The bar stool was uncomfortable and it was not properly connected to the base, leaving it unsteady as you tried to balance on top of it.

There were free WIFI available in the room and throughout the hotel. There was a switch connecting your iPod with a music system, a smart and new gadget hitherto not seen in any other hotel I've visited.

A generous sized bathroom with a half glass panel dividing the shower area from the sink. This did not work very well as the entire room got wet when taking a shower and you used the towel in order to dry the floor.

Room and bathroom was well maintained (as it is just a few years old), with no wear and tear. One thing I did not like was the wall-to-wall carpeting found nearly everywhere. This is one main reason for a lower hygienic standard, and I found my room slightly dusty due to the presence of the carpet.

Boiled bacon for breakfast?

Breakfast was included in the price, and there was a decent range of different foods to choose from. Cold cheese, meats, patés, as well as hot breakfast. I found the scrambled eggs (mixed with bacon) unappetizing. The eggs were rubbery and partly dry, and the bacon was boiled - strange! I do recommend the hotel to serve the bacon fried, and separated from the eggs. The sausages were immersed in baked beans - another strange way to serve them - and why were meatballs and pasta served for breakfast.

There were muesli, cereals, fruits, milk and yogurt available for those of you that prefer a healthy alternative as well. The staff was slow to clear the tables, and this made the meal feel a slightly chaotic experience.

Few inhouse facilities

The hotel had relatively few extra facilities for guests. Here are what was found and not found in the hotel:
  • Inhouse bar/café in the lobby area
  • No exercise facilities, spa, or pool available
  • Extra PC in the lobby, WI-FI throughout the hotel and rest area
  • Good hygiene and standard. Could be better with wooden or laminate flooring.
Price: I paid 620 NOK included breakfast. A good bargain in Trondheim.

Summary:

A budget hotel located in the middle of Trondheim, Norway. Small, but smart single rooms in Scandinavian design. Breakfast a chaotic experience, avoid the hot breakfast, if you do not like rubbery eggs, steamed bacon and sausages in baked beans. Low in inhouse facilities but a good bargain at only NOK 620 per night.
